Abstract

This study is entitled "Characters in Kurdish Folk Tales", and the researcher has tried to present the importance of Kurdish folklore through the important characters that storytellers have been able to perform their duties with skill and expertise, and deal with the events in a way that develops them successfully. In addition, the storyteller wants the folk tales to be fun and happy in the end, because in the events of the stories, there are often conflicts between two sides or two forces, the forces of good and evil. The force of evil constantly tries to create problems for the main character in the story, but storytellers develop events through other characters, who sometimes play the role of the main character, and become good helpers to the main character by providing him/her different ideas which end up with the success of the character in the challenges he/she faces in the events of the folk tales.

We must not forget that there are many Kurdish folk tales, whether narrated through animals or humans, that have a purpose, which is to educate, advise and learn lessons in different aspects of life, we can say that folk tales or stories play a positive role in Kurdish society.
