Abstract

Abstract

So far, Kurdish literary criticism has hardly revealed the roots of Kurdish poets’ lives through archival documents. Nali (November 23, 1877 AD) is one of the leading poets of central Kurdish poetry who spent more than the last thirty years of his life away from his country. He spent part of his life in Istanbul. In the past, the research studies have only proposed that he went to Istanbul and died there; nevertheless, no specific details of his life in the city have been given. This study, entitled (Darkness and Light of Nali's Academic and Educational Career in Istanbul,) has tried to determine in detail the time of Nali's first trip to Istanbul, the duration of his stay, his relationship with Ottoman officials, his scholastic and educational activities, and his associations with Kurdish poets and figures in the city. Moreover, the study describes specifically the reflection of Nali's personality in Ottoman journalism and from the perspective of Kurdish personalities of the Ottoman period.
