Abstract

The research aimed to identify the reality and prospects for democratic transition in the Kurdistan region of
Iraq، because interest in applying democracy in the Kurdistan region is an important issue for political reform
and creating a peaceful climate for expression، and the dimensions of political tension represented in violence،
tension and instability that many societies in the region are currently suffering due to crises and their aftermath.
In addition، the importance of this topic is evident as an original variable that reflects the pivotal interaction
of political life and the Kurdish political system، and the impact of this interaction on the performance of the
political system and the prospects and possibilities for achieving the process of democratic transformation. The
research reached several conclusions، the most important of which are:
1- The wave of democratic transformation began in the Kurdistan region of Iraq in the early nineties، when
the Kurdish political elite took power in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
2- In general، there are encouraging developments in the region on the issue of democratic transition and the
achievements made from that.
3- Improving economic and social conditions to a degree that is one of the indicators of change and development
for the appropriate transition towards democratic transformation in the region.
