The population size of the region has changed dramatically, with large numbers of people migrating from rural to urban areas, which has ultimately had a negative impact on human development. Because of this rapid population growth, it has become an obstacle to the success of social and economic development projects and not providing them the level of people's demands for various services, so that the number of urban residents is constantly increasing, especially in the provinces of Sulaimani, Halabja and Erbil. The importance of this issue lies in the fact that it is directly related to the life of the population because it considers the basic goals and mechanisms of development, and the main purpose of this study is to determine the impact of population characteristics on human development in the Kurdistan Region
. One of the most obvious results of the study is that the proportion of urban residents is constantly increasing at the regional level (78%) while the proportion of rural residents was (22%).. According to the results of the study, the age group between 15-60 was the largest group (60%) at the regional level.
