Abstract

Pragmatic Deixis play an effective role in linking the discourse to the context, through the appearance of a linguistic expression in the speech process, thus explaining the person or time or social status of the participants in the speech or the place where the speech occurred.

The Deixis are widely used in Kurdish proverbs and have an effective appearance in this field, in order to present the Deixis, the research used the book of proverbs of Sheikh Mohammed Khal as a research tool.

The research relied on descriptive statistics methodology, presented with the aim of identifying pragmatic Deixis in proverbs. This book, which we have taken as a sample of the research, contains (4492) proverbs in which Deixis can be noticed in (885) proverbs, which is (19.70%) of the total proverbs. Within these proverbs (1164) linguistic expression have appeared as Deixis. As a result, we have found that social Deixis are the most frequent, corresponding to (46.56%), personal Deixis (37.14%), temporal Deixis (29.49%), spatial Deixis (18.85%) ) have appeared, no Discourse Deixis are appeared in Proverbs
